Guide to Finding a Quality Plan
The self-employed and small business owners have a huge challenge trying to evaluate their health insurance options. Operating a small business is hard enough by itself; finding the time and the resources to research the best insurance plan may be difficult. The problem becomes more complicated when you realize how many insurance companies supposedly cater to (or prey upon) the self-employed. How can you really know if a health insurance plan is high quality or a disaster waiting to happen?
There are several quick and easy steps that one can take that will help to determine if the health insurance they are considering fits their needs. The first is to call a doctor’s office. Does the office accept this insurance company? How well does this company pay their insurance claims? What problems has the doctor’s office had dealing with this insurance company? Next, if an insurance agent is recommending this company, ask the agent direct questions. Does he or she represent more than one company? If not, why not? After all, it is unlikely for one company to be the most competitive all the time. Did the agent avoid details of the insurance plan in their sales pitch? Finally, just as you have found this website, research the health insurance company on the internet. You might be surprised what you do or don’t find.
